| Hitler's Capitals Tour Itinerary |
|
DAY
1: Local departure then onwards to Belgium for an overnight stay. |
| DAY 2: South through Germany to Bad Aibling in Bavaria, Munich for a three-night stay. B |
DAY 3: Munich (included) Hitler considered Munich as the ‘Capital of the Movement’ and it was the birthplace of National Socialism. It was here that the dictator made his first, and only, attempt to seize power (within Germany) by violence in the so-called Beer Hall or Munich Putsch in 1923. We spend the day touring the areas of Nazi influence in this beautiful city, including the route of the Putsch to the Feldernhalle, and the sites of the former Nazi Headquarters, the ‘Brown House’ and the Königsplatz parade ground. It was here that the seeds of National Socialism were to be sown and nurtured. B |
| DAY
4: Berchtesgaden (included) Today we travel to Hitler’s very own capital, his home at Berchtesgaden. We climb up the hill to the Nazi enclave, the National Redoubt. We also pay a visit to the ‘Eagle’s Nest’*, commissioned by Martin Bormann on behalf of the Nazi Party as a present for Hitler’s 50th birthday. We see, too, the site of Hitler’s former home, the Berghof, where he spent most of his time during the Second World War. B |
|
DAY
5: Munich (included) Dachau (included)
Today gives us some free time in the beautiful city of Munich, very much rebuilt in its original style after the ravages of the war. In the afternoon we visit Dachau, the first true Concentration Camp; a moving reminder of the brutality of National Socialism and all that it entailed. From Dachau we travel on to Nuremberg or Bayreuth for a two-night stay. B |
|
DAY
6: Nuremberg
(included)
We spend the day in and around the city Hitler considered to be the ‘Capital of the Party’. Here we see examples of Nazi architecture, the former parade grounds and stadiums. It was here, in Nuremberg, that the party was to grow, and to die. The city was chosen as the site for the famous ‘Nuremberg Trials’. We visit the famous Courtroom (subject to modern day court proceedings not taking place) where many Nazis including Goering and Hess, were tried in front of a world audience – the fall of National Socialism. B |
|
DAY
7: The
Rhine (included) Rhine Cruise with lunch (optional)
We leave Nuremberg and travel north to the River Rhine. Join an optional cruise on the majestic river with lunch included. Following the river north, we drive to Remagen where we will see and hear the story of the famous Ludendorff Bridge, heroically captured by the Americans on 7 March 1945. Overnight in the Rhine area. B |
|
DAY
8: The
Ardennes Offensive (included)
Today we travel through Luxembourg and the Ardennes Forest, the area used by Hitler during the winter of 1944/1945 in his last attempt to divide and defeat the Allies as they advanced towards Germany. The operation, known as the ‘Battle of the Bulge’ was to cause major problems to the Allies. Overnight stay in Belgium. B |

DAY
9: To Calais then return home. B |
