DAY 1: Home to Aberdeen Let the holiday begin as we travel through the Scottish Borders and on to the granite city of Aberdeen, where we stay tonight at the Thistle Aberdeen. |
DAY 5: We’re off
to the Northern Islands A great day is in store as we leave Lerwick and travel north to catch the ferry to visit the remote islands of Yell and Unst, the furthest north you can travel in Britain. Immerse yourself in complete tranquility and be dazzled by the enchanting landscapes of moorland wilderness and the Shetlands’ own fjords. It’s then on to the Old Haa Museum, then marvel at hand made truffles at Foord’s Chocolates before continuing along the east coast of Yell to Gutcher to catch the ferry to Unst. Take in the scenery as we visit Muness Castle and Unst Boat Haven. After a day of spectacular discovery it’s now back to the mainland. |
DAY 2: From Aberdeen to Lerwick We enjoy a free day to explore the beautiful granite city of Aberdeen at leisure or you could join us on an optional city tour before we make our way in the late afternoon to the ferry terminal for the overnight sailing to Lerwick, where dinner and breakfast is enjoyed on board the ship. |
DAY 6: Discovering West & Central Mainland Today we travel south to the islands of Trondra and Burra. Passing Scord viewpoint overlooking Scalloway we visit places of interest including the ‘Shetland Bus’ Memorial. We’re then off to enjoy a guided tour of Scalloway Castle followed by a visit to Scalloway museum before returning back to Lerwick, to take a guided tour of the award winning Shetland Museum. |
DAY 3: Exploring Northern Mainland We’re off to meet a local guide and start our tour of the Shetlands. We set off to Gott Farm to see Davie Robertson’s Shetland Ponies, before calling at the traditional fishing village of Voe. Journeying on we visit the interesting museum of Tangwick Haa and then drive to Eshaness, passing some dramatic scenery. Sullom Voe is where we head to next to view the memorial to the airmen of the flying boats based here, who lost their lives during World War II. Lastly we call at the Shetland Jewellery Workshop. |
DAY 7: Aberdeen to Blairgowerie
Following an early morning arrival in Aberdeen, we enjoy breakfast on board the ship before heading to Braemar, the UK’s highest and most mountainous parish, for a brief stop. It’s then on to Blairgowerie, where we stay tonight at the Angus Hotel. |
DAY 4: Exploring Southern Mainland Travelling south today we enjoy views across to Mousa Island as we journey via Bigton to pass St Ninian’s Isle. At Sumburgh Head there’s more stunning scenery to behold, then off to Jarlshof, one of Shetland’s best preserved and most complex archaeological sites – one of today’s highlights. We round the day off perfectly with a trip to Quendale Mill, before returning to Lerwick. |
DAY 8: Blairgowerie to Edinburgh to home Our Shetland Experience draws to a close as we head home after breakfast with fond holiday memories. |
