Lakeland
Explorer - England Tour Highlights |
The English Lakeland must
surely be one of the best-loved, and most beautiful, regions
in the British Isles. Here the sight and sound of water is
never far away, adding a magic and serenity that draws visitors
back time and time again. Our holiday base is Kendal, often
referred to as the ‘Gateway to the Lakes’. This ancient market
town is the focal point for the area and has many historical
buildings, fascinating craft and curiosity studios, a good
shopping centre, and a superb Norman castle. |

FULL
DAY A scenic delight in store today as we enjoy a full day tour of northern Lakeland. We head for the idyllic village of Grasmere, where the poet William Wordsworth lived. Here there is an opportunity to visit the Garden Centre, the tiny Gingerbread shop, and to take a stroll around the village, which is set amidst the fells and mountains. Continuing on by the banks of Thirlmere to Keswick, market town and tourist centre on the shores of Derwentwater, then on to Ullswater, one of the largest and most beautiful lakes, before descending Kirkstone Pass, with its breathtaking mountain views. |
FULL DAY Today we see the best of southern Lakeland on a full day excursion. Our first visit is to Bowness, probably the most popular tourist haunt, with its quaint alleyways and lively lakeside quays. Here there is an opportunity to take an optional ‘steamer’ cruise on Lake Windermere before driving to Hawkshead, one of the Lake Districts most picturesque villages. |
