| On the Edge of
the South Downs - England Coach Tours - 5 or 8 Days Tour Highlights • Brighton • Hastings • Rye • Alfriston • Beachy Head |
Eastbourne enjoys a fabulous
position on the edge of the South Downs - and higher average
sunshine figures than any other mainland resort. There are
three miles of splendid promenades with lines of colourful
deck chairs, the world famous Carpet Gardens are a constant
spectacle of beauty and colour, there are tea dances in the
Winter Gardens, and the Grand Parade Bandstand plays host
to the finest military bands from all over the world. |
| On the Edge of the South Downs - Your Excursions |
FULL
DAY We start today’s full day excursion by visiting medieval Rye, with its quaint cobbled streets and historic half-timbered buildings. In the afternoon we travel along the coast to Hastings, overlooked by William the Conqueror’s castle. The castle is accessible by cliff lift and the ‘Story of 1066’ is featured in the grounds. |
FULL DAY Today we head west to the cosmopolitan city of Brighton with plenty of time to enjoy its great diversity of attractions from the Royal Pavilion and Palace Pier to the quirky shops of the Lanes. This afternoon we call at the picturesque South Downs village of Alfriston before taking in Beachy Head, the vast chalk promontory which marks where ‘the Downs’ are halted by the sea. |
