FULL
DAY Our full day tour starts with a spectacular drive over 1500 foot Kirkstone Pass and along the banks of Ullswater to the Lakeland town of Keswick. Passing Thirlemere we come to the idyllic village of Grasmere, final resting place of the poet William Wordsworth, before arriving in bustling Ambleside with its narrow streets and quaint shops. Here there is an opportunity to take an optional cruise on Lake Windermere to Bowness. |
FULL DAY One of the highlights of this holiday is a spectacular drive, by Mountain Goat mini-bus, to explore the mountains, valleys and lakes that are not normally accessible by coach. Our tour starts with a drive through the wild and rugged Wrynose Pass, before commencing the dramatic ascent of Hardknott Pass, the steepest in Britain. We pause at the remote Hardknott Roman Fort, with its stunning views, before arriving at the village of Boot. The afternoon starts with a ride on the La’al Ratty (tickets included), England’s oldest narrow gauge steam railway. We re-join the mini-bus and drive to Muncaster Castle and Gardens (admission included) where the views of Eskdale are superb, before returning back to the hotel. |
