Inland is the tranquil landscape of the Dorset countryside,
whilst the coastline has strange features such as the lagoon
of the Chesil Beach and some spectacular cliff scenery too. |

DAY We soon reach the handsome county town of Dorchester, where the principle attraction is the lively Wednesday market, then meander through the Dorset countryside, past picturebook Corfe Castle, to spend some time at the small seaside resort of Swanage, which has a lovely sandy beach and some fine cliff scenery. |
FULL DAY Along the strange Chesil Beach, a bank of pebbles enclosing a lagoon which is a haven for water birds, to follow the so-called ‘Jurassic Coast’, the former home of dinosaurs, now a popular haunt for fossil collectors.We have sightseeing time at the old fishing village of Lyme Regis, setting of the film ‘the French Lieutenant’s Woman. Nowadays it is a characterful little resort with charming narrow streets and an old fashioned atmosphere. |
