Day 2 Gdansk with sightseeing
tour (included) |
Gdansk is Poland’s principal
sea port on the Baltic and famous for its historical splendours
as well as being the birthplace of the Solidarity movement
under Lech Walesa. On our included sightseeing tour we explore
the beautifully restored Old Town with its picturesque houses,
charming medieval streets and gothic churches, as well as
seeing the coastal resort and spa town of Sopot. |
Day 3 Malbork and Zelazowa
Wola (included) |
En route to Warsaw we visit
the picturesque town of Malbork, world-famous for its 13th
century Gothic Castle, once the seat of the Order of the Teutonic
Knights, and one of the most attractive castles in Europe.
We include a guided sightseeing tour of Malbork. We also call
at the village of Zelazowa Wola, which became famous in the
19th century, as it was the birthplace of Poland’s brilliant
composer, Frederic Chopin. The birthplace is a manor house,
which is home to a biographic Museum, and is situated in the
middle of a beautiful park. |
Day 4 Warsaw (included)
and sightseeing tour (optional) |
Almost totally destroyed
during the Second World War, the city was rebuilt in only
13 years and is Poland’s grand capital. Explore on your own
or why not join our optional sightseeing tour which reveals
the delights of the Royal Route with its churches, statues
and aristocratic residences. See also the Old City, Chopin’s
Monument, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and St John’s Cathedral
during the tour. |
Day 5 Jasna Gora (included) |
On the way from Warsaw
to Krakow, we call at the town of Czestochowa, home of the
imposing Jasna Gora Monastery. This has been an important
pilgrimage destination for many centuries, as it houses the
Black Madonna, widely believed to have been the cause of many
miracles. We include a guided tour. |
Day 6 Krakow with sightseeing
tour (included) and Wieliczka Salt Mines (optional) |
Krakow’s Old Town is placed
on the UNESCO list of protected World Historic Sites on account
of its fabulous architecture. As the former capital of Poland,
the city was the home of the royal residence for centuries
and was the only major city in the country to escape the ravages
of World War II. During our included sightseeing tour you
will see the delights of the Old Town and the magnificent
Wawel Castle, impressively situated on a hilltop overlooking
the Vistula River. In the afternoon join our optional tour
to the Salt Mines at nearby Wieliczka. Walk down through the
impressive galleries and see fantastic sculptures carved out
of the rock salt, before ascending by lift. |
Day 7 Zakopane and the
Tatra Mountains (included) |
Join our excursion to the
fine resort of Zakopane. Although situated in a wide valley,
the town is the highest in Poland, sitting at the foot of
the lofty Tatra Mountains. |
