Cologne’s floating market, aboard one of the cruise ships moored along the Rhine promenade, is one of the city’s six, making these markets some of the largest in Germany. Along with the largest Christmas tree in the Rhineland, which is decorated with twinkling lights, each of the markets has its own particular character, offering different seasonal gifts and decorations.

Christmas Markets Cologne & Bruges - Itinerary

DAY 1: Local departure then onward to Belgium for a 2 or 3-night stay.

DAY 2: Cologne. B

DAY 3: (4 day holiday) Aachen. B

DAY (3-day holiday) or DAY 4 (4-day holiday) To Bruges for a brief visit then onward to Calais and return home. B

Your Hotel

You’ll stay for two or three nights in a 4-star hotel such as the Mercure or Holiday Inn in Liège or the Holiday Inn in Hasselt. All hotels will have a lift and bar. All bedrooms will have T.V., telephone and hairdryer.

Day 2 Cologne (included)

We enjoy a full day in Cologne, whose Christmas magic strikes a very festive note with no fewer than six Christmas markets. There is also plenty of entertainment on offer as Christmas approaches – a variety of Christmas concerts, nativity scene displays and a huge ice rink on Heumarkt. We stay in Cologne until early evening.

Day 3 (4-day holiday) Aachen (included)

With its streets and alleys transformed into a festive paradise of lights and colour, and the range of goods on offer at the huge variety of tempting stalls, from grand precious objects down to modest trinkets, it’s no wonder Aachen has become a must for visitors.

Day 3 (3-day holiday) or Day 4 (4-day holiday) Bruges (included)

En route to Calais we make a short visit to Bruges, with its quaint canals and tempting shops.
